Bylaw Enforcement
Section 362 gives municipalities the legal authority to enforce their bylaws. Specifically, it:
-
Authorizes councils to appoint bylaw enforcement officers.
-
Permits those officers to enter land or buildings (with proper notice or authorization) to investigate or enforce a bylaw.
-
Allows municipalities to issue orders or notices to individuals who violate bylaws.
-
Empowers municipalities to take necessary actions if a person fails to comply with an order, and to recover associated costs.
-
Protects officers from liability if they act in good faith and within their legal authority.
