About the Town of Tisdale – Northeast Newcomers Services

The Northeast Newcomers Services (NNS) program is a project of the Town of Tisdale that provides settlement support and services to newcomers throughout Northeast Saskatchewan.

The program assists newcomers in navigating settlement, accessing community resources and services, connecting with employment and language supports, and building meaningful connections within their communities.

The Town of Tisdale is seeking a Settlement Advisor to join the Northeast Newcomers Services team and provide welcoming, client-focused support to newcomers throughout the region.

Position Summary

The Settlement Advisor will provide settlement information, needs assessments, referrals, navigation, and ongoing support to newcomers accessing the Northeast Newcomers Services program.

The successful candidate will work directly with newcomers to understand their needs, connect them with appropriate programs and services, and assist them in navigating community, government, employment, language, and settlement resources. The position will also support community outreach and develop partnerships with organizations, service providers, and employers throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide information, guidance, and ongoing support to newcomers, including immigration navigation, settlement services, needs assessments, referrals, and responses to general inquiries.
  • Direct and assist newcomers in locating and accessing relevant online and printed information, resources, programs, and services.
  • Assist newcomers in accessing appropriate programs and services, including booking appointments for language assessments and connecting clients with Career Services for employment and job-search support.
  • Travel and meet with newcomers throughout the assigned service area, including providing services to individuals who are unable to travel to the office.
  • Work flexible hours, as required, based on client and community demand.
  • Maintain and regularly update newcomer resource materials, including online and printed materials, social media content, and website pages.
  • Process new client files and information inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date office and client files in accordance with Town of Tisdale policies and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Maintain contact statistics and prepare and submit newcomer reports and statistics to the Program Manager according to established reporting periods or when requested.
  • Perform general administrative duties, including answering telephone inquiries, receiving and preparing correspondence, and operating a variety of office equipment and technology.
  • Participate in outreach activities within the communities served by Northeast Newcomers Services.
  • Participate in community committees, planning groups, and other community initiatives as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain regional partnerships with organizations and agencies that provide services to newcomers and other community members.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with employers to support newcomer employment and integration opportunities.
  • Promote awareness of Northeast Newcomers Services and facilitate connections between newcomers and available community resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information in accordance with Town of Tisdale policies and applicable legislation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with newcomers, immigrants, refugees, or diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of settlement services, community resources, government programs, immigration processes, employment services, and/or language services is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to conduct client needs assessments and provide appropriate referrals and follow-up.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office, email, social media, and online information resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Additional language skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, cultural awareness, and sensitivity when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • A valid driver's licence and reliable access to transportation, with the ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular office hours when required to meet client and community needs.
