Understanding Your 2026 Property Taxes
Your 2026 Property Tax Notice is on the Way
You will be receiving your 2026 Tax Notice in the mail over the next few days. To help you better understand your bill, we’re sharing some key information about this year’s changes.
What’s New in 2026?
In October 2025, Council approved updates to municipal taxation:
- The municipal tax discount has been discontinued
- Penalties now apply to current taxes after the due date
This means your tax bill now reflects the full cost of municipal services, rather than a discounted amount.
What About Tax Rates?
The municipal mill rate has been reduced
Residential base taxes have decreased to help ease the burden on homeowners
Commercial base taxes remain stable, with only a slight decrease
While adjustments were made, the Town is maintaining financial stability. Overall municipal taxation revenue is projected to increase by $63,323 in 2026.
Will my property taxes decrease?
No. Most property owners can expect taxes to remain similar or increase slightly compared to what they paid last year with the discount applied.
Example (Property Taxable Assessment: $165,840)
2025 (with discount): $3,058.48
2026 (no discount): $3,065.86
Difference: +$7.38
Council and Administration carefully reviewed multiple options to ensure a fair approach while supporting long-term sustainability and reliable municipal services.
